IBERO-AMERICAN FORUM FOR MUSEUMS AND EDUCATION

The I International Conference, Museums in Education. Training Museum Educators, to be held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum from 9 to 11 April 2008, has added an additional activity to its programme with the inclusion of a working session entitled “Ibero-American Forum”. The aim of this session is to facilitate an exchange of experiences and to offer collaboration and discussion regarding ideas relating to the educational programmes of museums in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world. In order to do so, a blog has been created within www.educathyssen.org in which participants can upload their reports and assessments of experiences relating to this professional field. The blog will start operating two weeks before the start of the Conference in order to offer an information platform and prior discussion site whose aim is to prepare the actual working session that will take place on Friday 11 April from 5pm to 7pm.

The session entitled “Ibero-American Forum” will consist of brief reports by participants on experiences and situations in current museum education, followed by a discussion of these issues. It will be oriented towards a presentation of working methods developed in the participant’s particular country and above all towards an analysis of activities of international interest.

Through the Cooperación Cultural programme, the Spanish Ministry of Culture is collaborating with the Conference, which has been recognised as an activity within Ibero-American year, whose theme this year is “Museums as Agents of Change and Development”. This additional activity at the Conference aims to reinforce opportunities for exchange of knowledge between professionals in the education sector in museums in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world.
